A new Penguin Classics edition, William Shakespeare's Macbeth is one of Bard's classic plays. Referred to as "Scottish play" by superstitious people, Shakespeare's Macbeth is a tragedy that depicts the downfall of Macbeth who was promised a golden future as ruler of Scotland by three witches and was prompted on by his wife. He murders King Duncan to ensure his ambitions come true. A turn of events ends in war and bloodshed.  Macbeth also depicts the relationship between husbands and wives, and the risks people are prepared to take to achieve their desires.

This book also introduces Shakespeare's life and the Elizabethan theatre. A separate introduction to Macbeth and a chronology are also included.
